Although most Belizeans profess Christianity, only about 10% attend church regularly, revealing a gap between profession and true spiritual transformation. Cultural influences have led to mixtures of biblical truth with superstition, paganism, and black magic among some Spanish-speaking immigrants, Mayans, and Garifuna communities, creating confusion in beliefs and a need for clear gospel conviction. While Evangelicals have grown significantly over recent decades, challenges remain; legalism within churches, overstretched bivocational pastors lacking access to training, and deep cultural and denominational divisions hindering unity. Additionally, although mission efforts have brought benefits in health care and literacy, the ongoing influx of short-term missions’ risks fostering dependency rather than empowering the national Church. There is a deep need for revival, unity, strong leadership development, and sustainable partnerships for lasting Kingdom impact.

  1. Pray for genuine repentance, renewed commitment, and freedom from nominal Christianity and spiritual confusion.
  2. Pray that the pure truth of God’s Word will overcome superstition, legalism, and outward religion, producing true transformation of hearts.
  3. Pray for provision, encouragement, and accessible training for pastors who are stretched and serving bivocationally.
  4. Pray for unity across cultural and denominational lines and for mission partnerships that strengthen and lead to the maturity of the Belize Church.
